Once upon a time...

(Please read this article with the voice of Mary Alice Young, the dead woman in "Desperate Housewives")

Once upon a time, when I was young and naive (still am) and still in primary school, I would often read stories from around the world about kings and queens, princes and princesses, about "raja yang zalim" which arrested and killed people as he wished etc etc.

We were so relieved then that such Evil was from days that were thousands of years ago (or so we thought). We were told about how our country was so good, not like the evil communists, not like China or Russia. Wow, I was blessed indeed to be born here and living here.

Now we only watch these stories re-enacted in dramas and movies starring Mel Gibson, Zhang Ziyi, Brad Pitt etc.

Then one day, I grew up. And I haven't stopped growing!

And I realised that the "Feudal" system never left us. It's just disguised in another form and under another illusion. Basically, grown-ups have understood how to lie to ourselves to make ourselves feel better.

You see, you don't know what it's like UNTIL you have felt power in your hands! Some people will never risk LOSING that powerful feeling. Once they KNOW THAT POWERFUL FEELING, THEY LOSE THAT LOVING FEELING (HAHA). And they lose all sense of integrity and sensibility. In short, they go crazy. Who was it that said "power is addictive?"

I have had people who were nice to me, probably only because I held a certain "powerful" position, so they chose to "powder" me. But when I chose to give up that position, the same people who were so nice to me turned ugly. It was like the beautiful queen in Snow White turning into an ugly witch! Double-headed snakes.

They then chose to be leashed to the new guy who claimed to be in power. "Power," it seems -- is determined by the size of the bank account, and how many lawyers you can afford to go to court with. "Power" is determined by what promises he can promise you, how much more money he can offer you, and what kind of power he can bestow upon you.

How can these "bend-where-the-wind-blows," no-backbone lalang NOT admit they are NOT Jekyll & Hyde, justifying that their decision to follow the one who seemed more "powderful" was the right and sensible move? But again, lalang or wildgrass are just like puppets who move when the puppetmaster pulls the string.

Some of these "powderful" people love the power they have over others. And they love to have their EGO stroked,
(I am not used to using profanity, so I will be poetic and artistic about it, and be my true self for once), cos they can't bear hearing that anyone else could possibly have a different opinion than THEIR OWN GREAT IDEA. Nor could anyone have the audacity to make any objections.

The Powdered Person's favourite command is "JUMP!"
The Powder Puff quickly scurries to attention "HOW HIGH?"

Alternative Version:
The Powdered Person's favourite command is "POOWWWW DEEEEEEEEER!"
The Powder Puff quickly scurries to attention "WHERE?"

To the Powder Puff: Forget loyalty, appreciation or respect to the one who "discovered" you and gave you something when you were nothing just because you deserved the chance. Hey, get real. Now that your mentor's gone, you are ready to takeover and join the current dude who claims to hold that Power. Why join the underdog when you can go with those who seem ALREADY in power? You get Instant gratification, higher position, MORE POWER....and MORE POWDER to use.

Why struggle? Yes, why indeed?

I recently read that the handsome King of Bhutan chose to give up his hereditary, all-consuming power and turn Bhutan into a democracy...

WHAAAAAAAATTTT??!!!

SHADDUP, GABY!

....forcing,for one last time, his people to vote for the government of their choice. Then, Tony Leung & Carina Lau simply had to have their wedding there.

Maybe Bhutan for now, is the love paradise.
